Relaxing on the Porch

Horseback riding

Thunderhorse Ranch is a great place for folks to get away and enjoy special times with family and friends. There are many recreational activities available at Thunderhorse Ranch. Some of these activities are available on-site, others in the nearby area.

Horseback riding. The Ranch is a big favorite of equestrians. You can bring your own horse and ride on the ranch or in the nearby forests. You can trailer your horses up to the ranch (with your own private corral) and both you and your horses can have a wonderful vacation. We also have horses owned by private individuals which are available for you to ride on-site.

Wildlife Viewing and Photography. Early morning and evenings are a great time to watch herds of Elk and Deer who frequent the Ranch's meadow and forest areas. The Ranch has two wildlife viewing blinds which are ideal for wildlife viewing and picture taking.

Fishing. The White Mountains abound with excellent trout fishing lakes and streams. Nearby Silver Creek is well known as Arizona's best trout fishing stream. Scott Lake also has good trout fishing and bird watching for ospreys and eagles.

Hiking - Ranch visitors often hike in the nearby mountains and forests where they enjoy beautiful vistas and often frequent wildlife sitings. Show Low is the gateway to the 200 mile Mogollon Rim with many different hiking opportunities.

Kayaking & Standup Paddleboarding. Scott Lake is a favorite of kayakers and paddleboarders. The ranch does have kayaks available for rent by guests.

Mountain Biking. The nearby hills and mountains offer great mountain biking trails with beautiful vistas.

Archery & Target Practice. Try your hand at archery at the Ranch's archery range or try target shooting at the neighborhood range.

Skiing and Snowboarding. Arizona's premier Winter sports resort - Sunrise Ski Resort - is a short 45 minute drive from Lakeside. In addition to winter sports like skiing, snowboarding and tubing, Sunrise has excellent summer mountain biking trails. www.sunrise.ski

Authentic Western Barbecue. A favorite of guests at the Ranch is to have a cowboy cookout on the authentic Old West style barbecue outside next to the fire pit.

Other fun things to do. Enjoy a hand of cards or a board game in the game parlor. Or just stretch out on your cabin porch for an afternoon with a good book from our ranch lending library.
